Ericeira, an old fisherman´s village located 35km from Lisbon is in the municipality of Mafra. It was the most important harbor of the Estremadura region in the nineteenth century and has a vast historic and archeological heritage, beautiful panoramic views and magnificent beaches with attractive waves for surfers.

Nowadays it is a quiet village of very narrow streets and retains an appealing atmosphere full of caring people. Tourism has become the life and economy of this unique place.

The region is full of parties, fairs and pilgrimages, town markets, handicrafts and a varied cuisine rich in fish and seafood.

Ericeira is officially recognised by the Save the Waves Coalition as a World Surfing Reserve and is the first in Europe. Their 11 kilometers of pristine Atlantic Ocean coast is one of the rarest places in the world for its large number of diverse quality waves. The excellent natural characteristics for surfing in this region is unparalleled. In fact, 22 waves of different characteristics provide great surf under varying conditions.
